During the past two days we learned the meaning of the word awesome (This one’s for you, dad). We now know that the word awesome is used way too freely. For example, "Wow, that frittata is awesome." No, Zion is awesome. Walking around looking at these huge rocks that surround you, it’s hard to believe a place like this exists. Not only that, but that we get to be here.
Yesterday we went to go see the Emerald Pools. The hike starts at the Virgin River, the river that runs through Zion and is responsible for carving through its rock. From there, you take a path which leads to the Lower Emerald Pools. There you have a choice to continue to the middle and upper pools, which is what we did.
The hike progressively got more difficult, but so did its beauty. The Middle Emerald pool’s overflow creates a waterfall that falls into the Lower Emerald pools. The Upper Emerald pool was no less than a sanctuary. We found a nice spot and had our lunch there.
Next, we headed back down to the Grotto and from there to the Riverwalk. On this trail, you walk side by side with the Virgin River all the way to what they call the narrows. Unfortunately due to too much waterflow, the Narrows were closed. This was a huge upset because the Narrows were actually what attracted us to Zion while researching the park.
Now, we are at a cafĂ© having breakfast looking out into Zion and smelling like a fire blew up on us (Because it did, Jules has a scar). It’s been 2 days since we have showered. Next stop, Vegas where we finally get to rinse off the sweat, smoke and other weird smells we have acquired and probably get some new ones too.
