General Sherman

We arrived at Sequoia National Park pretty early but due to construction we had to wait for the one road that takes you through the park to be opened. We took that time to walk around the park and look for bears, but no luck.

As we drove up the mountain, the temperature kept dropping. Slowly, we started to notice the giant sequoias pop up one by one. They stood out from the redwoods, being that they were actually redder than the redwoods and about 10 times their size!

When we arrived at the parking lot for Giant Forest where 4 of the world’s 6 largest trees live, we noticed there were at least two feet of snow on the ground! The path to General Sherman, the world’s largest tree was cleared and as we walked closer we realized this was not just any tree. It was HUGEEEE-A! The pictures don’t really do it justice, unless there’s something in front of it to compare.
There it is in the back. Looks small from far away.

Tree hugger

Can you spot the monkey?

The forest smelled really good and fresh. We could have stayed there all day. And taken 100 more pictures ;)
Next stop: Yosemite!
