13/3=.........?

The next day, we went to get some delicious breakfast and orange juice. Then we went to one of Jon’s recommendations, Goldfield Ghost Town!

On the way we saw a coyote and Larry became more obsessed with cacti. We had just missed the high noon gunfight which we were upset about, but we were so excited anyway. The whole place was wooden and had a million splinters on it. There was a general store, museum, jail, church, train and a real saloon. They also had a reptile exhibit and we saw the rarest snake in America. After exploring we had a beer at the saloon and saw a real cowboy talk on a cellphone. We also saw a horse that had alfalfa hair.

Then we went to downtown Scottsdale so Larry could spend two hours looking for the perfect cactus (he didn’t find it.) First we went to the Sugarbowl and had a really good ice cream sundae.
When we left, Leah took us up to camelback mountain (a mountain that looks like a camel) to show us the view of Phoenix and some really nice houses.

Then we went back to her house to get ready for dinner at Ra, a really good sushi place. All the rolls were really different than what were used to on our Tuesday night date nights, but were all really good. Their Viva Las Vegas roll had a spicy crab salad and a cracker on top. It took at least 3 bites to eat! During dinner, Larry kept trying to convince me that we should leave that night because we had such a long drive to San Antonio ahead of us, but I said no. “We” decided to get a good night’s sleep and leave in the morning, well rested for the 16 hour drive ahead of us.
On the way back from dinner we also saw a javalina which is a desert pig of some sort. So, we really got to see all of the main desert animals: a snake, javalina, road runner(meep meep!) and a coyote! All except for scorpions, phew!
I've been to Arizona lots of times but since Larry had never been he was really surprised by it. He really loved it and said (and I agree), that it really is different from all of the other Southwest states we've been to, and not like anywhere else. Maybe it's because we didn't have such a great tour guide in the other states ;) Thanks, Leah!! xoxo
